If you’re looking to hire a bartender in the Chicagoland area, you’ve probably noticed pricing is all over the place. If you've collected a few quotes, some places are in the thousands , others are in the hundreds, and it’s not always clear why every quote is different.

We run a mobile bartending company here in Chicago, and after working hundreds of events, I’ll break down what you should realistically expect to pay and what actually drives the cost for each company.

Every event is different, but this is a realistic range for Chicago and what we have seen across companies.

(Disclaimer: these are NOT our exact prices, this is range from what our team has analyzed across different companies and an average of our events.)

  • Smaller events (under 50)- $200-$1500

  • Mid Size events (50-150)- $400-$4500

  • Large events (150+)- $800-$10,000

Our corporate and private home host clients come to us because they don’t want to think through every bar detail themselves. They are too busy planning everything else. We've done hundreds of event across the North-shore and Chicago, and realize the simplest details matter. We handle the structure so everything runs smoothly once guests arrive.

Many of our clients want the bar to feel like a seamless part of the overall event design, not just a service station. From sourcing glassware to refining the final presentation, we take care of those details so everything feels intentional and elevated.

For example, we recently worked with a family in Winnetka, Illinois who wanted the bar to feel like a natural extension of their event. They were sourcing tables and linens from a rental company, and wanted our bar to be cohesive with their rentals, so we helped them make sure the bar would flow with the setup.

A few things most people don’t realize when booking bartending services in Chicago:

  1. Not all companies provide the same level of setup and support

  2. Alcohol is often not included (especially with licensed, insured services). Very few mobile bars in the state of Illinois have a liquor license.

  3. Staffing properly matters more than people expect.

  4. Service style impacts guest experience more than drink variety

  5. Some businesses price higher due to their personal experience.

  6. Often, pricing reflects not just the bartender, but the level of structure behind the service, from smaller, part-time setups to fully established teams built to handle events at a higher standard.

Some events require a more refined bar experience. This is usually the case when:

  1. Large weddings (you want to make sure you hire the right vendor for your special day).

  2. Corporate gatherings (client facing events, brand activations, store openings).

  3. Corporate gatherings and client-facing events

  4. Private events having a more design focused event

  5. Private events at venues

  6. Milestone celebrations (50th birthday, engagement party) where overall excellence is a priority

A few common mistakes we see when planning bar service and factoring costs:

• Underestimating how many bartenders are needed

• Not factoring in setup and breakdown time

• Trying to do too many cocktails with limited staffing

• Overlooking how the bar setup fits into the overall event layout

A little planning upfront usually prevents most issues during the event itself. Our team at Wee Mixed, makes sure to guide you through this.

Common questions and answers:

  • Do bartenders provide alcohol? Most companies in Illinois do not, very few do.

  • What is a dry hire bartending service? Bartending service that does not provide the alcohol and it must be provided by the host.

  • Can companies help with shopping lists? We do!

  • Do bartenders in Chicago provide alcohol? Most do not, and if they do, please ask to see a copy of their Illinois Liquor License to verify that they can legally provide it.

We’ve worked events across Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, including areas like Oak Park, Riverside, River Forest, Hinsdale, Winnetka, Glencoe, Lake Forest and would love to help your next event be a success! Whether it be a corporate event, or a private home event, Wee Mixed is here to help you.
